Security Update: Linux Kernel Vulnerabilities Fixed with No Downtime
Our response is complete for every server Ubuntu has published a fix for. Each one was on the fixed kernel the day the fixes came out, with no downtime. You do not need to do anything.
The Problem
On November 3, 2026, Ubuntu published fixes for 20 vulnerabilities in the Linux kernel, the core of the operating system on every APB360 server (Ubuntu security notice USN-8959-1: CVE-2026-92488, CVE-2026-74721, CVE-2026-80556, CVE-2026-89866, CVE-2026-98387, CVE-2026-80692, CVE-2026-74462, CVE-2026-93196, CVE-2026-90253, CVE-2026-74585, CVE-2026-93145, CVE-2026-89604, CVE-2026-93185, CVE-2026-90314, CVE-2026-80564, CVE-2026-80804, CVE-2026-89645, CVE-2026-98228, CVE-2026-80714 and CVE-2026-98511). A kernel fix only takes effect once a server restarts on the new kernel, so installing the update is not enough on its own.
How We Responded
- Same-day inventory. Within hours, we checked every APB360 server for the kernel it was running and the fixed kernel it needed.
- Tested first. We restarted a test system on the fixed kernel and confirmed every service came back before any live server was touched.
- Restarted one server at a time, no downtime. Most of APB360 runs on pairs of servers. We restarted one server in each pair, confirmed it was back on the fixed kernel and serving normally, and only then restarted its partner, so one server was always serving you. Our background jobs, which run on a single server, paused for about a minute.
- Verified. We then checked every server directly: each one reports the fixed kernel, every site answered after each restart, and every server is back in service.
Status
- Fixed and working normally: the APB360 portal, secure document upload links, the service the mobile apps use today, and the internal systems behind them.
- Waiting on Ubuntu: the new APB360 API runs an earlier Ubuntu release, for which Ubuntu has not yet published a fixed kernel for our server type. We will install it and restart the API the day it is published.
- Not affected: this website, apb360.com.
What You Need to Do
Nothing. Keep using APB360 as usual.
