October 2026 FFL Listings Processed — 1,279 New Licensees, and Where They Are

The ATF’s October 2026 FFL listing is live in APB360. The file covers 77,469 active licensees, 318 more than the August listing, and the new records were checked and placed on the map before it went live.

Compared with August, 92% of the listing came through untouched. The interesting part is the other 8%: who arrived, who moved, and where the growth is. We also rebuilt how we process these files, so this release comes with more detail than any before it. For the twelve-year view, read our new report, The U.S. FFL Landscape, 2014–2026.

Manufacturers Are Punching Above Their Weight

Type 07 manufacturers make up 29% of all active licensees, but 42% of new ones: 531 of the 1,279. Type 01 dealers led with 605, and importers (Type 08) added 41. If you are one of those new manufacturers, the Type 07 IOI preparation guide is a good place to start.

New This Release: Business, Residential and PO Box

Every new or moved address now gets its type and map location from one check. That gave us a clear answer on 94% of new licensees, up from 53% in August, so far fewer records land in the “unknown” pile.

  • 768 new licensees (60%) are at residential addresses
  • 431 new licensees (34%) are at business addresses
  • 1,273 of 1,279 were placed on the map; the other 6 are flagged for follow-up

A Better Way to Process the ATF File

A new release now loads in a single step that either finishes completely or changes nothing, and the new listing stays switched off until every address and location check is done. A file that looks wrong is held for a person to review instead of loading on its own. In October that caught one record with an expiration code that did not match the ATF’s format, and a random sample of licensees agreed with the ATF’s FFLeZCheck 25 for 25.
